POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary responsibility of the Engineering Systems Specialist is to support, manage and implement IT systems for the E&P operational business units.
The successful candidate will work closely with the business in support of existing applications and new system implementations. They will strive to improve the quality of IT service delivered to the business and will seek to continually provide tangible business benefits by the effective use of IT.
This role will have a particular focus on functional disciplines relating to Production and Development operations including Facilities Engineering, Marine Technology, Petroleum Economics, Production Engineering, and Reservoir Engineering. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a depth of experience and knowledge in these areas.
Strong analytical and interpersonal skills are essential for success in this position as well as possession of a strong sense of ownership and a drive to improve existing systems and processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support/Enhancement of existing applications :
* Work collaboratively with other members of the global IT team to provide technical application support in the areas of Facilities Engineering, Marine Technology, Petroleum Economics, Production Engineering, and Reservoir Engineering
* Liaise with software suppliers and other third parties as required to provide timely and cost-effective customer support
* Take clear ownership of support issues taking advantage of other internal/external expertise as required
* Configure and manage network license management software that controls access to the applications
* Ensure all tasks are managed to a successful conclusion and communicated to the customer
* Evaluate and implement improvements to existing applications in consultation with the business
Execute and Implement Projects:
* Work with customers to define requirements and build these into managed implementation plans
* Participate in and co-ordinate application implementation projects as required
* Monitor and direct the activities of external service providers
* Design/adapt business processes. Plan and execute the transition to the new processes
* Keep supervisors and other stakeholders informed of progress on projects on a regular basis
Help build and maintain the reputation of the IT organization as a value-added partner to the E&P business:
* Liaise closely with other functional E&P IT groups, the EPT organization and GI&O as appropriate, to ensure enterprise architecture principles, technology standards and process best practices are observed, promoted and upheld
* Develop and maintain good working relationships with key business customers
* Proactively research and recommend potential improvements to the IT service
* Remain aware of industry best practices and adopt where applicable
* Work as an agent of change in improving business results through exploitation of IT
* Identify and implement processes to improve the efficiency of engineering workflows
* Actively seek to improve collaboration opportunities through the use of technology
Qualifications
SKILLS / COMPETENCIES:
* Strong knowledge of upstream E&P business processes, specifically within the areas of Facilities Engineering, Marine Technology, Petroleum Economics, Production Engineering, and Reservoir Engineering
* Demonstrable experience of leading industry software products within these functional areas
* Proven business analysis and/or project management experience
*
Ability to quickly learn, implement, and effectively support new software products within the functional areas. Actively seeks opportunities for continual learning and development.
Experience in some or all of the following technologies:
* Web based application development and Windows Programming technologies (Visual Basic, Windows Scripting, .Net)
* SQLServer, SQL, and T-SQL
* Linux operating system
* Linux cluster technology
* Shell scripting languages
* Knowledge of underlying server and communications infrastructures as they relate to application delivery
* License management using industry standard technologies
* Excellent communication and relationship-building skills. Ability to work with all levels of the organization from senior E&P Management to individual technical contributors
* Delivery-focus with an emphasis on task ownership and completion. Self-motivated with a methodical and diligent approach
* Ability to multi-task - be flexible and able to work on many tasks concurrently, ability to work through obstacles to successful completion
* Ability to interact with individuals of different nationalities and demonstrate awareness and understanding of cultural differences
* Knowledge and experience in leveraging both IT solutions and workflow process improvements
EXPERIENCE:
* Minimum of 5 years relevant experience, including system implementations, application support and development
* Prior experience of software implementation projects, preferably with some project management exposure
* Oil & gas upstream systems experience required
* Engineering background a plus
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering or equivalent
