Job Description

The Geological Survey of South Australia (GSSA) is a branch of the Mineral Resources Group which is part of PIRSA's Minerals and Energy Resources Division. The GSSA provides a comprehensive information and knowledge framework on the State's geoscience and resources through a strategic science based approach within a collaborative and professional work environment. The implementation of exploration initiatives of PACE2020 is a key role of the GSSA.

The programs of PACE 2020 have been specifically designed to drive forward mining development, and will continue to act as the primary mechanism in building South Australia's international profile and strengthening investor confidence in the State's resources sector.

Primary Industries and Resources SA (PIRSA) is a dynamic State Government agency committed to the economic development of the state and the sustainable use of natural resources. PIRSA supports the value-chain development of the food, wine, seafood, forestry, fibre and minerals and energy industries.

There are a range of opportunities available in the Mapping and Exploration Program of the GSSA. The Mapping and Exploration Program undertakes the majority of the field mapping activities and geoscientific work of the GSSA. Successful applicants may be required to undertake fieldwork in harsh conditions. The positions will be assigned to the Prospectivity and Geophysics Team and to the Regional Geology and Mapping Team.

Applications are sought from suitably qualified geoscientists with knowledge, skills and experience in the following areas:

For positions within Regional Geology and Mapping applicants must possess current experience in:

* geological mapping, particularly in primary tectonic provinces and complex terranes as well as sedimentary basins and regolith-dominated areas.
* Alteration and economic geology focused field programs
* Geological interpretation of a wide variety of geoscientific datasets

For positions within Prospectivity and Geophysics applicants must possess current experience in one or more of:

* Polymetallic exploration and economic geology techniques
* The use of geoscientific exploration software including ERMapper, ArcGIS and / or Mapinfo (+Discover), Intrepid and Modelvision
* Current mineral systems geological or geophysical models.

Potential applications at the PO3 level must also demonstrate leadership experience, previous autonomy, or more advanced geoscientific knowledge in more complex geological terranes, exploration or modeling techniques.
