Position Summary
Under the direction of the Inspection and Reliability Supervisor, develops reliability improvement strategies and performs duties associated with the predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance of rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, fans, turbines, and blowers. The Maintenance Reliability Engineer will be responsible for root cause analysis as a basis for eliminating "bad actor" equipment and development of QA/QC criteria for maintenance of rotating equipment. The incumbent will also monitor and interpret machine vibration testing and analysis, thermographic analysis, Audible Vibration Testing and Analysis, to characterize equipment operability and to detect equipment degradation before the advent of functional failure. The Maintenance Reliability Engineer will be responsible for documenting root cause analysis results, performing trend analysis, and developing performance metrics as a basis for reliability improvement.
The Maintenance Reliability Engineer will be responsible for assisting in the development of equipment repair plans and establishing standards of repair. The Maintenance Reliability Engineer will work with the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisors and crafts to ensure that equipment repairs are performed in accordance with specified plans. The Maintenance Reliability Engineer will assume responsibility for prioritizing rotating equipment maintenance work as required to restore the optimum maintainable state of all rotating equipment
The objective of the Inspection and Reliability Organization is to facilitate development and efficient operation of a functioning Risk-Based-Decision program within the refinery to promote safety, ensure environmental compliance, improve plant assets, and to reduce the incidence of mechanical failure.

Responsibilities
Act as first level technical resource to maintenance groups, providing technical direction and recommending problem solutions.
Provide technical review of site plant changes from a rotating equipment standpoint as part of our Site Management of Change Procedure
Analyze failures and recommend corrective action.
Perform Root Cause of Failure Analysis (RCFA) with emphasis on human reliability.
Perform Reliability-focused Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEA)
Assist with the development and implementation of a bad actor failure reduction program for rotating equipment.
Evaluate costs benefits of replacement versus repair for rotating equipment.
Maintain equipment files, records, and procedures
Track and document cost of failure.
Maintain currency with developments in the mechanical rotating equipment field and recommend improvements to current practices.

Qualifications

Qualifications
Hands-on experience in heavy industrial settings (Refining, Chemicals, Petroleum,) required.
Experience as a trainer or instructor is beneficial.
Familiar with Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) desirable.
Capable of analyzing data from equipment history records (SAP, equipment files, vendor research) as basis for repair plans desirable..
Experience in inspection, and repair of rotating equipment desirable.
Possess excellent team leadership skills.
Effective in working with and learning from personnel in various roles and from diverse backgrounds; including engineers, designers, drafters, union and non-union craftspeople, suppliers, and construction contractors.
Experience with utilizing SAP and PCMS software for equipment history and inspection data collection and analysis is a plus.

Requirements
BS Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
5 - 7 years work experience
Experience in the preparation of job plans and procedures.
Experience with one or more formal root cause analysis methodologies (e.g. TapRoot, Reason, Apollo, …)
Good proficiency in use of Microsoft products: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Visio.
