Petroleum Draftsman jobs at Manpower Services Inc
The primary roles and responsibilities of the EXPEC ARC Patent Draftsman are related to the process of applying for patents. Secondary tasks include initiating contracting issues, trademark applications within the company, tracking Intellectual Property activity, conducting comparative research with industry, providing information related to IP commercialization and/or licensing, and other issues such as supporting company events related to IP. Patent protection is also sought in other jurisdictions. Should matters related to any jurisdiction arise, the draftsman will handle such situations if support or additional information is required by Law. The draftsman handles all issues with Law that may arise during the process and afterwards related to defending patents or trademarks. Upon Management request for a new trademark, Draftsman coordinates with Technologists and Public Relations Department (PRD) to seek initial approval for Trademark application. Upon PRD approval, Draftsman provides justification material to Law so trademark application may be processed and submitted to USPTO. Draftsman possesses the legal expertise to provide guidance and support to EXPEC ARC Contracts Group to ensure joint research NDAs, contracts and other agreements provide comprehensive IP protection for the company. In some cases, Draftsman may be required to liaise with New Business Development (NBD) to provide briefs and other IP-related documentation that may be conducive to building a case for commercialization or licensing.
Draftsman is required to maintain records of all patent, trademark and other IP-related activity for the Department, integrate reports from IAM, and compile quarterly reports for Department Management. On a monthly basis, a brief patent summary is updated that covers the business line and key external companies for a comparative analysis.
The draftsman has a strong petroleum engineering background and gains a full understanding of the inventors' ideas through discussion and written materials, conducts prior art searches, discusses any related findings or concerns with inventors, and converts the ideas to complete patent disclosure documents. The disclosures are formally processed by Intellectual Assets Management (IAM) and the Law Department then filed at the USPTO by Saudi Aramco External Legal Counsel based in the United States. The draftsman communicates regularly with technologists from all petroleum engineering and geoscience disciplines and acts as the department liaison with (IAM) and Law through all stages of the filing process. It is required that the patent disclosure be drafted tightly and succinctly with the highest legal expertise to eliminate the need for IAM, Law or External Counsel to amend or alter.
