PhD studentship at the Institute of Mineralogy and Petrography, University of Innsbruck/Austria
Applications are invited for a PhD studentship at the Institute of Mineralogy and Petrography, University of Innsbruck/Austria. Starting date is June 1st, 2010, or a suitable date to be agreed upon with the candidate. The position is limited to 3 years. In this project high-pressure experimental (multi-anvil, piston cylinder) and analytical techniques (FT-IR-, Raman- and Mößbauer spectroscopy, Transmission Electron Microscopy) are combined in order to characterise the spatial distribution of hydrous defects. Results will be applied to monitor the crystallisation conditions of pyroxenes at upper mantle conditions.
Candidates should possess a Diploma/Master or comparable degree in geosciences, geophysics, chemistry or related disciplines. Experience with high-pressure devices, spectroscopic methods and other analytical methods are advantageous but not necessary. Salary will be according to a FWF PhD-salary - currently approximately € 25000 per year before taxes.
