Horizon Oil Sands, north of Fort McMurray, is an exciting part of our growth. Horizon Oil Sands operations started in February 2005 and after years of planning and construction, the Horizon Oil Sands successfully and sustainably produced its first barrels of high quality, sweet synthetic crude oil (SCO) in early 2009. First production of SCO was a major milestone for Canadian Natural and we are very pleased with the success of the project. With Phase 1 production capacity of 110,000 bpd, this is just the first step in value creation. Position Summary
SCOPE:
The Piping Engineer will design, evaluate, troubleshoot, review and analyze piping for new and revamp projects to provide engineering support to Operations, Maintenance and Construction.

KEY AREA OF CONTRIBUTION:
* Provide model review and support of specification change request from EPC.
* Provide Pipe Stress Analysis using Caesar II piping software.
* Provide Piping Troubleshooting and Solutions to day towards day operational changes
* Develop, review and maintain all engineering standards, specifications and procedures for the ongoing projects and EPC’s, related to piping
* Develop and/or review Engineering and Construction packages and coordinate the inspection and maintenance of all piping systems in accordance with the piping safety programs during commissioning, start up and operation.

• Register Piping to ABSA.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
* Take ownership of all matters related to piping, structures, supports and stress analysis
* Give advice, recommendations and leadership to resolve piping issues

• Monitor and follow up on all piping projects to achieve preferred results

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Review the piping and valve selections for piping systems in various services of the Upgrading and Utilities plants
* Provide direction and design review for piping systems for all phases of the project
* Provide technical support to design, fabrication and construction of the piping systems, as well as operations and maintenance
* Provide direction and decision making with EPC’s regarding equipment
* Perform troubleshooting/inspections of piping issues such as vibrations or stress analysis and generate technical and business case recommendations including the cost estimate
* Develop Construction Work Packages incl. piping scope of work specifications, data sheets, general arrangement layouts, isometrics and Bill of Material

• Deal with Procurement issues such as material substitution when needed & Constructability issues/clarifications

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:
Education & Experience:
* 15-25 years of experience with piping design, fabrication and construction, incl. valve selections.
* Engineering degree coupled with registration or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in Alberta required.
* Eligible for registration as an Engineer in the Province of Alberta
* Sound knowledge of Piping Stress Analysis, design and specification of flexible and fixed supports.
* Sound knowledge of International Codes and Standards.
* Experience with piping design and inspection codes such as ASME B 31.3 & 31.1 as well as API 570 and preparation of line class specification would be an asset.
* Experience in Oil and Gas with preference given to work experience in an operating facility would be an asset.
* Solid organizational skills with the ability to be flexible and adaptable in providing service to meet the needs within the various departments/plants

• Knowledge of AUTOCAD would be an asset.
