Job Description

Senior Geophysicist

Hansa Hydrocarbons is a rapidly growing E&P company focused on exploiting the remaining potential for natural gas in the prolific Southern Permian Basin of Northern Europe. Our focus is the commercialisation of existing discoveries through further appraisal and evaluation, with particular emphasis on the Netherlands, UK Southern Gas Basin and Germany. The company is operator of the Thoresby Field which is scheduled for first gas in Q4 2012. We have also recently acquired an interest in the GdF Suez operated Juliet Field which will come on stream late 2011. The company also has an extensive acreage position offshore Germany where a well was drilled on the L1-Alpha discovery earlier this year. Hansa is well financed, having secured US$100 million funding from US private equity house, Avista Capital Partners. We have a strong management team with a proven track record of value creation from technically and commercially challenging projects.

Reporting to the Technical Director and based in our Covent Garden office in Central London, the successful candidate will form part of a multi-disciplinary team comprising a geologist, geophysicist, reservoir engineer and a technical assistant. Given the size and nature of the organisation he/she will also be exposed to all commercial aspects of the business. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing the company’s portfolio through farm-out evaluations, ground floor licence applications and asset/corporate acquisitions.

Candidates will be graduate geophysicists with at least five years’ experience working for either a major or large independent oil company or a leading industry consultancy. They will have gained a thorough grounding in 2D and 3D seismic interpretation and depth conversion in a variety of different geological environments as part of their work experience. Experience of the Southern Permian Basin would be advantageous, but is not essential. Candidates will have strong technical skills and be familiar with the latest technology, including PSDM, impedance inversion and seismic attribute analysis, as well as data acquisition. A track record in prospect generation is considered essential and previous experience with Kingdom and Petrel packages would be a distinct advantage.

A highly competitive remuneration package is offered, which includes a top quartile base salary and the opportunity to benefit financially from the success of the company. Other benefits include discretionary bonus, 10% pension contribution, family health cover and 26 days annual leave entitlement.
