VSO Mongolia's Secure Livelihoods work is contributing to reducing the number of people living below the poverty line in some of Mongolia's most under-developed provinces or districts - as they're know in Mongolia. In this area of work VSO aims to support and develop the capacity of a variety of community-based farmer initiatives alongside the local government for a more sustainable outcome.
We require a qualified (masters degree or higher) and experienced water engineer to lead the design and implementation of the project's 60 water points. Using your experience in water and irrigation management and well equipment design, you'll work closely with national colleagues to develop the potential for alternative wellhead designs using alternative energy sources and provide the water point development component. Experience of alternative and renewable energy sources, wellhead machinery and rural development project management are desirable. Key responsibilities include:
* Assess the current machinery used in wellhead design and the review the use and issues surrounding wellhead design with herders.
* Identify existing or design new low energy or renewable energy wellhead machinery;
* Select and test feasible wellhead designs with herders and make recommendations to the project regarding the design of wellheads using low or renewable energy approaches based on evaluations.
* Assist in designing water point environmental survey and participate the monitoring environmental impact assessments on use of pasture and water resources.
* Develop training plan/program and conduct training to build capacity of the herders groups on use of water resources and operating machineries.
* Prepare training and extension materials and contribute development of publications in its responsible areas.
